Amboseli National Park

About The Park

Located on the Kenya–Tanzania border, northwest of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli National Park is one of Kenya’s most loved safari destinations. The park is famous for its breathtaking views of Africa’s highest mountain and its wide-open plains that make wildlife viewing wonderfully easy.

Amboseli is known for its large concentration of wildlife, especially during the dry season when animals gather around the swamps and wetlands that sustain life in the park. Its landscape is beautifully varied, with acacia woodland, open savannah, rocky bush country, swamps and marshlands creating rich habitats for many species.

For many visitors, the most memorable moment is seeing wildlife roaming freely across the plains with the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro rising in the distance. It is a scene that truly captures the magic of an African safari.

The park is especially famous for its magnificent elephant herds. Families of elephants can often be seen moving calmly across the plains or feeding in the swamps, offering some of the best elephant viewing experiences in Africa. Amboseli is also home to several members of the African Big Five including the Cape buffalo, lion and the elusive leopard.

Bird lovers will also find plenty to enjoy. The park’s wetlands and open plains attract a rich variety of birdlife such as the Grey Crowned Crane, Maasai Ostrich, Spoon-billed Plover and the Great White Pelican.

A visit to Amboseli is about more than wildlife sightings. It is about the feeling of space, the beauty of the landscape and the unforgettable experience of exploring the African wilderness beneath the shadow of Kilimanjaro.
