HOW IT ALL BEGAN

In 2007, after years in advertising, Bea Kanja found herself asking a rather simple question: Who really gets to tell Kenya’s story? Not just the Kenya made for postcards and photographs, but the Kenya we actually know.

That question became the beginning of Salaton Safaris.

Salaton, a Maasai name, was suggested by a friend, and somehow it just felt right. It was a fitting name for a company born out of a love for Kenya and a belief that Kenyans should be part of telling their own story to the world.

What started with sharing Kenya with friends and family gradually grew into a safari and travel company. And while the business has evolved over the years, one thing has stayed the same: we have never believed that travel should simply be about ticking places off a list.

It should make you curious. It should surprise you. It should connect you to people and places. And, if we have done our job well, it should leave you with a story worth telling when you get home.

Salaton has grown, changed shape, paused, reflected and renewed along the way. But that original question is still at the heart of what we do. Who really gets to tell Kenya’s story? For us, the answer is simple. We do, and we would love to show you our Kenya.

Stephen Covey once said that we should “live our lives by a compass and not a clock” and for us, this means that we offer all the joys of life that can be enjoyed by our clients, for travel truly offers us opportunities to relax, rejuvenate and refresh our minds, bodies and souls.

Every day, we get to work with a view of doing two things; open up the world to friends, family and travel partners in addition to helping them make memories.

Your Journey. Your Story. Our Expertise.

Every trip starts with a question, not a template: What does a great journey actually look like for you? That’s where the itinerary begins, not with a template that was already sitting on the shelf.

Answering it takes real curiosity about what you want, real craft in how the details come together, and a team that stays with you long after the formalities are concluded, right from the first phone call to the story you tell once you’re home.

That’s the whole idea behind Salaton: not just moving people from place to place, but sending them home enriched, connected, and full of experiences worth sharing, telling, and documenting.
