The Maasai Mara National Reserve is run by the local county council, unlike the other national parks in Kenya. It is probably the most famous and most visited reserve in Kenya. It offers breathtaking views (as seen in the film ‘Out of Africa’, much of which was filmed here), an extraordinary density of animals including the “Big Five” and many varieties of plains game.
An impressive feature is the annual migration of wildebeest, which runs from July – October.
Apart from the seasonal migration, game viewing is excellent year-round.
Mara Sopa is located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills. Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Game Reserve. The lodge has fifty guest cottages divided into two wings to either side of the main public areas. Six of the cottages each contain two suites with larger bedrooms and bathrooms, and both indoor and outdoor seating areas.
The Camp is uniquely laid out over the sprawling grounds that include rolling manicured greens, a virtual mini forest of indigenous shrubs and exotic trees, a large pond stocked with fish, mini bird sanctuary and an authentic Maasai village adjoining the Camp.
The Camp includes 20 club tents, 51 standard tents, 2 family tents, a main restaurant, bar and many bush dining options.
Ashnil Mara Camp has a beautiful setting in the middle of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, nestled amongst a small forest overlooking the Mara River approximately 45 minutes from Keekorok and 30 minutes from Olkiombo airstrip. The tented camp has 40 luxury tents overlooking the plains of the Maasai Mara and includes luxury ensuite bathrooms, walk-in closets and a sun deck for relaxation while watching game.
Base camp Masai Mara provides 12 spacious and luxurious tents, bordering the Maasai Mara National reserve, hidden away under thatched roofs on a lush peninsula in the Talek River, with spectacular views of the savannah. You will have your own veranda overlooking the river, and the bathroom ensuite with a hot solar heated shower open to the sky. Enjoy the amazing wildlife from the comfort of your tent, the fig-tree platform, or while lazing over a drink in the open-air bar. Base camp Masai Mara was a 2013 Certificate of Excellence winner at Trip Advisor.
